River came to us in February 2024 from a local shelter. She had been found abandoned in a stair well of an apartment building. River had a dental surgery and was slow to wake up after anesthesia. It became clear she had neurological symptoms that were likely the result of a stroke. We cared for her for a week while waiting on a specialist consult and she had another neurological event that left her unable to move. We made the difficult decision to help her pass. River loved head bonks, kisses and splashing in water. She helped her foster mom read by playing with the tassel bookmark.
