Super Senior Cat Sanctuary (SSCS) offers a safe place for senior and medical needs cats age 13+ by providing adoption and hospice. We prioritize cats at risk of euthanasia. Many of these cats find themselves in shelters when their guardians are deceased or unable to care for them. Senior and medical needs cats are incredibly loving, resilient and playful. All animals deserve care and love into their golden years.
We provide a loving retirement home for them as long as they need it. Any medical care they need and all the snuggles, warm nap spots and play time they want. Take a look at our Happy Tails page to read about kitties now in their forever homes.
We receive hundreds of rehoming and transfer requests every year and unfortunately can only take in a few due to the very high medical costs. We are not always accepting new cats, and can work with you to provide alternative options. We have a waitlist, network with Ontario cat rescues and offer an online courtesy posting page. We can also provide behavioural advice and refer you to lower cost veterinary services.

Fostering
Due to the time demands of caring for super senior cats who frequently have medical needs, we can only care for a limited number of cats. We are looking for more foster homes! Please fill out a fostering application if you’d like to help!
Veterinary Care
Super seniors (cats 15 years and older) need to go to the vet twice a year for routine check ups. This allows us to closely monitor their health and run any necessary blood or urine tests for comparison. Each of these visits can cost $400-500. All the cats at the sanctuary are fed canned food and have access to heated beds, sunny windows and accessible features like ramps and adapted litter boxes. Every cat we take in costs a minimum $1500-2000 per year and usually more if medical needs arise (dentals, emergency, ultrasound, pain management, end of life care etc).
Organization Transfer of Cats to SSCS
We do not take cats into our care unless we are certain we can care for them the remainder of their lives. Organizations looking to place cats with us may need to pay for ongoing medical costs. We are also open to long term fostering options with organizations who would prefer to maintain legal ownership of the cat. Alternately the organization (or us!) can find a sponsor to fund ongoing medical care for that cat. Please contact us regarding sponsorship opportunities!
Another option is if your organization has a suitable foster home available to care for the cat. We have limited space and sharing an available foster home may allow us to transfer your cat into our care.
