Adoption/Foster Application

Thank you so much for your interest in adopting or fostering a senior cat! You’ll learn about the application process and find the online application on this page.

The adoption and foster application are one and the same. Your application is sent directly to our program director. Once we receive your application we will go through the information for consideration and begin by emailing your personal references and calling your vet clinic(s). Applications which *could* be a good fit are called for a phone or video interview.

From the submission of the application to final consideration for adopting/fostering a cat can take 7-10 days. We try are best to be as quick as possible, and much of this depends on you! Please let your personal references know we have sent an email, and advise them it could end up in their spam folder. Please call your vet clinic(s) and give them permission to chat with us. The most common reason for application delays are 1. Calling the vet clinic only to find out you have not provided your consent for them to chat with us and 2. Your personal references not getting back to us.

Fostering

Fostering is a wonderful way to volunteer and support cats in your community. We have a few different types of foster placements.

  1. Foster a cat until they find an adoptive home
  2. Provide palliative care for a cat during their last months/years
  3. Temporarily foster a cat until they can be reunited with their guardian

Requirements:

  • Spare room for foster cat to be kept separate from other pets
  • Own transportation for vet appointments and emergencies
  • Time commitment is on average 6-12 months
  • Ability to go to one of our vet clinics in Hamilton, Oakville, KW or London

Some questions on the application may not be applicable for fostering (for example how much you plan to spend on your foster cat – as we provide everything they need). Answer the questions to the best of your abilities and put N/A if the question does not apply.

The foster application is the same as the adoption application because it’s important to our organization that our foster homes are just as good a fit as our adoptive homes. This also has the added bonus, that if you as a foster home are considering adopting your foster cat (other than serious incompatibility/financial concern), you are already approved to adopt!

Please note we do accept foster homes who cannot adopt due to financial limitations. Fostering is a wonderful way to have a pet in your life without the financial responsibility. We are happy to discuss this with you further.

Approved foster applicants provide us with information about what kind of placements they would and would not feel comfortable with. We are then able to try to match you with the best fit for your home environment.

Adopting

If your application has been considered a good match for the kitty you have applied for (or any of our kitties available for adoption), we will reach out to coordinate a meet and greet. Meet and greets generally happen via video chat first or potentially in person. You can also be added to our adoption wait list, which means you’ll be emailed as soon as new kitties arrive.

We support our adoptive families post adoption. You can reach out if you have any questions, concerns or updates!

Applications are considered in terms of best fit for the cat. Our adoptable kitty’s well being is our top priority! We follow a strict set of guidelines to ensure the cats in our care go to homes which are en excellent fit for them. If you are not selected to adopt a cat from Super Senior Cat Sanctuary this is not a mark against you as a caring animal lover, but may simply mean we do not have a cat that would be a good match for your family, or that we received multiple applications. We are always happy to direct you to other amazing organizations who may have a cat that is looking for a family just like yours!

* Please call your veterinarian upon completing the application to provide permission for us to speak to your clinic as part of the vet check.*

**Please note we do NOT ask the vet clinic for a “reference”, we ask questions to get a brief summary of previous care given to your pets on file.

***Please read the term of adoption after submitting your adoption application
