These kitties came to the Sanctuary and passed while in our care. Sometimes we receive kitties who are already palliative and other times their health conditions have been left untreated for so long that they cannot be reversed. Each kitty is so special and we mourn their passing. A memory garden has been set up so that we can always have a place to go to remember their spirits.
Wren

Wren came into our care in September 2025 after being left in a carrier outside a vet clinic. She was diagnosed with kidney disease and was deaf and blind. Wren was very sweet and slowly adjusted to her foster home. At a recheck in November it was discovered she was in congestive heart failure and there was little that could be done. She is remembered as a purring machine that loved snoozing on heated cat beds.
Kitty

Kitty came into our care in February 2021 and stayed with a foster as a permanent resident. Kitty had a lot of medical scares and yet he’d recover to the surprise of everyone. He was eventually diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, chronic pancreatitis, arthritis, and kidney disease. Kitty loved treats, playtime and “helping” his foster mom work. He eventually developed non-regenerative anemia due to chronic kidney disease at the age of 21.
Twinkle

Twinkle was at least 16 years old. She came to us hours before euthanasia. She had ended up at an animal control after her person died. Twinkle had a lot going on. She had multiple medical issues but really adored people and wanted constant cuddles and playtime. After multiple tests our vet recommended a dental and spay procedure due to severe dental disease and pyometra. While the procedure went well, Twinkle passed away a few days later due to complications.
Pekoe

Pekoe was 14 years old and came to us when his family could not provide for his medical needs. We ran tests including bloodwork and an ultrasound and found lymphoma. He came to us un-neutered and was not eligible for surgery. Pekoe received chemotherapy and lots of supportive care. He lived 4 months in our care and was very loved.
Midnight

Midnight was with us for over 2 years after her person died and she had bounced around to a couple other homes who could not keep her. She had hyperthyroidism, arthritis, high blood pressure, kidney disease and was then diagnosed with cancer. She became a permanent resident. Midnight was very affectionate and confident, liked belly rubs, being brushed and sleeping in sunbeams.
Chichi

Chichi came to us in 2021 and was with us for 3 years. She had chronic eye issues which required three different eye surgeries. Chichi was independent and loved curling up and looking out the window. She adored cheek scritches and would fall over trying to get more. She developed heart failure and masses in multiple organs.
Sweet Guy

We took in “Sweet Guy” as a temporary placement in the hopes of reuniting him with her person. Name changed due to privacy reasons. Sweet Guy was loved by his fosters and his person was provided with regular photos, updates and we even managed a visit. Unfortunately Sweet Guy had multiple health issues including several heart conditions, arthritis, kidney disease and diseased mouth. His kidney disease progressed rapidly and he then developed neurological symptoms. We made the decision to help him pass and made sure his person was with him in the end.
Apple Pie

Apple Pie was about 18 years old and was found outside by caring people who brought him to a shelter. He had hyperthyroidism and then it was discovered he had multiple internal masses. This led to anemia which become unmanageable. Apple Pie adored people and would follow you around and sit in your lap as soon as you sat down. He enjoyed playing and had the most gorgeous eyes. He was often found curled up on a heated cat bed.
River

River came to us in February 2024 from a local shelter. She had been found abandoned in a stair well of an apartment building. River had a dental surgery and was slow to wake up after anesthesia. It became clear she had neurological symptoms that were likely the result of a stroke. We cared for her for a week while waiting on a specialist consult and she had another neurological event that left her unable to move. We made the difficult decision to help her pass. River loved head bonks, kisses and splashing in water. She helped her foster mom read by playing with the tassel bookmark.
Moon

Moon came to us in August 2023 and lived at the Sanctuary for 6 months. She was extremely affectionate and wanted to be snuggled up with her foster mom. She loved played with bookmark tassels, chowing down on treat tubes and cuddling up on heated cat beds. Her kidney disease progressed rapidly, and despite hospitalization we weren’t able to get her over the flare. She passed away with assistance while being held by her foster mom.
Fergus

Fergus came when his time was up at a local shelter. He was about 14 years old and overweight. He had been in a home for 3 weeks after his person died without anyone knowing or providing him food. As a result he developed hepatic lipidosis and pancreatitis. We hospitalized Fergus and he was in and out of emergency clinics for the week he as in our care. He received round the clock feedings to try and combat his liver decline but developed multiple complications. We had to make the decision to help him pass. So many people rooted for Fergus and we hope he know how much he was loved.
Kaoru – nickname is Kao – pronounced “cow”

Kaoru (nickname is Kao) was the sweetest kitty we’ve ever met at the Sanctuary! She loved to sleep in a lap for hours and hours and wanted to be with people as much as possible. Kao had some neurological challenges but they didn’t effect her very much. It was the result of a previous stroke. She was blind and deaf, had a high blood pressure and late stage Kidney disease. She also battled pancreatitis and upper resp on and off! Despite her many hospital stays, Kao remained the sweetest kitty ever.
Coco

Coco came from a animal control after being surrendered when her person died. She was 18+ and loved attention. She had stage 2/3 kidney disease. She adored cheek rubs and lap snuggles. Treat tubes and heated cat beds. Her spirit shone so brightly. We spent our last day together doing all of those things.
Dilly Bean

Dilly was only with us a few months after being seized from a neglectful situation and finding himself in a shelter. I am so so thankful that he had some months of love in a home. Dilly Bean was an incredibly sweet and special cat (I almost named him Sweetness). Always up for a chat and a cuddle and enjoyed playtime, food and cozy chairs. Dilly Bean’s kidney disease rapidly progressed.
Mikey

Mikey was 17 years old and came with Chichi when their human needed to go to hospice. He was an incredibly handsome, sweet boy. He loved to play and chase toys. His foster mom would throw toys one by one while he ran after each one and never brought them back! When Mikey came he only weighed 5 pounds due to untreated hyperthyroidism. We got this condition under control but unfortunately his kidney disease progressed rapidly and despite hourly care he declined and could not recover. In his last month with us he opened up so much and started coming up for snuggles and following us around. We’ll miss his loud meow and very quiet purr.
Boomer

Boomer was transferred to us. He had been found as a stray and was not doing well in the shelter. It’s shocking that a 15+ year old cat could be become a stray and remain unclaimed. Especially given his extremely sweet nature. Unfortunately we only knew him for a short time before he became extremely unwell and was rushed to emergency veterinary care, where it was recommended that we help him pass. Boomer was extremely sweet and all he wanted was to be loved. He would sit in a lap for as long as anyone would let him. He loved to play with his laser pointer. He was very very chatty! While he only lived at the Sanctuary a very short time, he was so loved and is greatly missed.
Gus

Gus was 14 years old and came to us when he had a euthanasia appointment scheduled. We managed to place him just in time! He was so sweet and and we were able to get him into diabetic remission. He developed some sort of spinal issue and we had a specialist appointment scheduled after standard tests did non reveal the cause. Unfortunately he crashed just days before his appointment. He was rushed to the vet but he was already too far gone. It’s suspected he had cancer. Gus will be remembered for the cutest purr we’ve ever heard that sounded like doves cooing. He loved to make biscuits, had the softest fur and he adored catnip.
Venus

Venus was surrendered when her family moved into non-pet friendly housing. She was 21 years old, blind and had severe arthritis. She also had stage 3 kidney disease. It was determined from the beginning that Venus would stay as a permanent resident at the Sanctuary for the rest of her days. We cared for her 6 months while she enjoyed heated cat beds, face massages and one on one snuggles. She received pain medication, care for her kidney disease and she also went for acupuncture and laser therapy at Southern Ontario Animal Rehabilitation clinic. In the end it’s suspected she had a stroke as she lost the use of her back-legs. We helped her pass with her family in the room so she knew how much she was loved.
