Re-homing & Assistance

We offer many supports to cat guardians who need assistance.

Re-homing

Behavioural advice

Senior cat care advice

While we have a very limited intake each year, we can offer supports to those needing to re-home their senior cat(s). We can also offer supports and consultation on various behavioural and senior issues to help you remain with your cat. We provide judgement free assistance. While we welcome donations, we do not have an intake or consultation charge, our services are free.

Unfortunately we are rarely able to assist with re-homing in urgent/emergency situations. Your local animal shelter is usually the best option if you have a very limited timeframe.

Please fill in our assistance form on Google forms if you would like support, and the cat in need of help resides in Ontario Canada.

What to expect

What happens after I fill in the assistance form?

Your form is read by a volunteer who will reach out by email. They may ask additional questions to help find the best options and supports to share with you.

If you are seeking re-homing, your cat will go on our intake waitlist (unfortunately it’s a 6+ month wait).

We will also offer additional options:

Courtesy Listing on our website – we’ll need a bio about your pet and a nice photo to include. We recommend having your cat into the vet for a geriatric/senior bloodwork profile. It’s not required but encouraged. Prospective adopters reach out to you directly.

Networking – If you have agreed on the assistance form, we will share your re-homing request in a private group for Ontario cat rescues. If any are able to intake your cat, they would reach out to you directly. This is one of the main ways we assist guardians trying to re-home their cats. We can also send a list of organizations who may be a good fit and that you can reach out to.

Facilitated Adoptions – If you are unsure about a prospective adopter, you can direct them to our adoption application. We can screen the application by chatting with them on the phone, contacting their vet clinic, and references. We would then chat with you and provide our notes so you can make an informed decision. Please let us know if you would like us to help with this.

If you are seeking senior cat care or behavioural advice, we can provide ongoing email supports. Our executive director, Kimberley, provides these consultations. She has 15+ years experiences fostering senior cats and running animal welfare organizations.

Many people would like to keep their senior cat *if only*. If only they got along with the other animals, if only they didn’t go outside the box, if only they didn’t meow so much etc

Sometimes *if onlys* are something we can help with!

You will be asked additional questions so Kimberley can get a better understand of what you and your cat are struggling with, and she will suggest some different options. One of these options is always to consult with your veterinarian to ensure there is nothing medical going on to cause the issues you are experiencing.

Financial assistance programs can be suggested as well.
